Internal Medicine is made up of “doctors for adults” who provide primary care and more complex care for serious illnesses.  The University of Arizona Medical Center internists are experts in preventative health care, focusing on healthy lifestyles, emotional and physical wellbeing, and early detection of disease.  They also help patients make thoughtful decisions about tests and treatments, and facilitate appropriate referrals to specialists when necessary.

Many internists are also considered “hospitalists,” and specialize in inpatient medicine ensuring that patients receive excellent care while in the hospital.
