Geriatrics involves the health care of the aged, including diagnosis and treatment of illnesses specific to older adults. At UPH, the geriatrics specialty is poised to meet the growing needs of elders and their families in Southern Arizona.
UPH physicians who specialize in geriatrics, internal medicine and family medicine, are dedicated to the improvement of quality of life for older adults through the highest quality of care. They also facilitate appropriate referrals to specialists when necessary.
Special Programs
Arizona Center on Aging addresses the health and human welfare of older adults through integrated research, education and excellence in health care and service. The center works to advance the scientific study of aging, offer interdisciplinary education and clinical training, and provide clinical and community service to Arizona’s aging population.

Community Outreach
UPH Geriatrics physicians are a resource on aging issues to the community. They sponsor and participate in conferences and training events, and work with other community organizations to support Arizona’s older adults.
Geriatrics Grand Rounds lectures are open to health care professionals and interested community members. They are hosted the third Tuesday of each month.

Major Areas of Research
UPH doctors are involved in interdisciplinary research projects to improve the care and health outcomes of vulnerable older adults. The College of Medicine and the geriatrics section conducts research in collaboration with the University of Arizona Colleges of Nursing, Public Health and Pharmacy.
Clinical Trials
